Selena Gomez recently gave fans a rare glimpse into her emotional journey post-breakup with pop star Justin Bieber. Speaking on Jessie and Lennie Ware’s Table Manners podcast, Gomez appeared alongside her fianc, music producer Benny Blanco, and opened up about rediscovering love after years of solitude.
Gomez revealed that she had been single for almost five years after ending her on-off-again relationship with Bieber, which lasted almost a decade. Looking back at the years that followed their final breakup in 2018, she confessed that she went on a few disappointing dates, but nothing ever felt real until Blanco entered her life.
As reported by Instyle, I hadn’t liked anybody in a long, long time,” she told him. “Some kisses are just to have fun, but when there’s emotion involved in one, it’s different. I was a little embarrassed because I hadn’t felt this way in such a long time.”
A Past She’s Left Behind
Gomez has often avoided speaking publicly about her personal life. However, when speaking during her 2022 documentary My Mind & Me, Gomez referred to the split-up as “the best thing that ever happened” to her. “I wasn’t scared anymore,” she claimed, describing the relief of no longer feeling “terrorized” by the relationship.
Her relationship with Bieber, which unfolded in the public eye from 2010 to 2018, remained a subject of headlines long after their breakup, with fans still clinging to the idea of “Jelena.”
Finding Happiness Again
According to people, Gomez now seems to be in a much healthier place now. She and Blanco, who were friends before their romance began in 2023, announced their engagement in December 2024. “Forever begins now,” Gomez captioned on Instagram.
The couple appeared together at the 2025 Oscars, where they looked visibly happy and in love. Backed by her close circle and a supportive fan base, Gomez seems to have found both peace and lasting romance.
