Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, both of whom have starred in different versions of The Karate Kid, just revealed that they are teaming up for the first time to make a new movie in the beloved franchise.

As Cobra Kai continues to explore the characters and themes of the franchise, there is a growing possibility that the show could expand the Miyagi-Verse by incorporating characters from both The Next Karate Kid and the 2010 Karate Kid reboot.

Ralph Macchio, the actor portraying Daniel LaRusso in the franchise, has hinted at the possibility of Hilary Swank’s Julie Pierce, the protagonist of The Next Karate Kid, making an appearance in Cobra Kai. Macchio has stated that anyone who has interacted with Mr. Miyagi is considered part of the Miyagi-Verse, and Julie, having been mentored by Miyagi, would fit seamlessly into the Cobra Kai narrative.
The fifth season of Cobra Kai introduced the concept of an international karate tournament, opening up the possibility of characters from different regions joining the storyline. This could pave the way for Jackie Chan’s Master Han from the 2010 Karate Kid reboot to make an appearance in Cobra Kai season 6, even if be it a cameo. While the 2010 reboot exists in a separate cinematic universe, its connection to the overarching karate theme could justify a brief inclusion of Master Han in the Cobra Kai universe.
The potential inclusion of characters from The Next Karate Kid and the 2010 Karate Kid reboot would undoubtedly excite fans who have enjoyed all aspects of the franchise.
Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan Are Teaming Up For the First Time
Jackie Chan and renowned actor Ralph Macchio are set to join hands for a new installment in the iconic Karate Kid franchise.
The upcoming film, produced by Sony Pictures, is slated for a December 13, 2024 release. The main plot is largely kept secret and no title has been announced yet.
In a video released on Tuesday, Chan and Macchio made the announcement and they also launched their “global search” to find the next “karate kid.”

“We’re starring in a new ‘Karate Kid’ movie together,” adds Macchio, who portrayed Daniel LaRusso in the first three Karate Kid films between 1984 and 1989, as well as the TV series continuing the storyline from the films, Cobra Kai.
Sony Pictures claims that the film will combine and carry on the mythology of the previous films while setting the tale on the East Coast and centering on a Chinese teenager who turns to martial arts and a stern but wise master for guidance and strength.
The Karate Kid franchise, which debuted in 1984, has evolved into a beloved cinematic and television saga, earning over $430 million globally.
