7 Christmas Horror Movies You May Have Missed

FollowShare

During my interview with Joel Kinnman for his Christmas themed action film Silent Night, he told me that some people just want to see explosions at Christmas time. While I think that’s certainly true, I think people also want to see blood. Why else would there be such an abundance of Christmas themed horror films? In fact, there are so many of them, that it’s easy to over-look several of them. But don’t worry, we’re here to help with our list of 7 Christmas Horror Movies you may have missed.

7. Santa Claws (1996)

Christmas Horror You May Have Missed – Santa Claws

Be warned, this movie is often described as “so bad, it’s good.” So, if that’s not what you’re interested in, you may be better off skipping this one. It’s a micro-budgeted, over-the-top horror movie that’s ridiculous and cheesy as it’s title would suggest, and that’s exactly why it’s garnered such a cult following over the years.

6. Don’t Open Till Christmas (1984)

There’s a strong chance you haven’t seen this trashy slice of Christmas gore. It’s a slasher film that has been called terrible, ridiculous and outlandish. And honestly… those are all pretty accurate descriptions. But we don’t care! The movie leans into its absurdity and if that’s the type of thing you enjoy, this one is a gift for you.

5. Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022)

Killer robot Santa. I’ll say that again. Killer… Robot… Santa. Are you in, yet? You should be. It’s bloody Christmas indeed, as an out of control robot goes on a murderous rampage on Christmas-Eve.

4. Anna and the Apocalypse (2017)

A Christmas-themed zombie musical? Yes, please! The story is generic, but the music elevates this traditional zombie-flick to new heights. And setting the story at Christmas time is the perfect setting to explore a zombie outbreak filled with holiday cheer.

3. To All a Good Night (1980)

Another 1980’s slasher makes the list with To All a Good Night. A killer dressed as Santa torments the students of an all girls boarding school on Christmas Eve two years after the tragic death of a young girl, pushed over the balcony in what was meant to be a “prank.”

2. Better Watch Out (2017)

Christmas Horror You May Have Missed – Better Watch Out

It’s essentially an R-rated Home Alone, and we absolutely love it! Better Watch Out is endlessly rewatchable and wickedly fun, fusing the horror and Christmas genres seamlessly. Oh, and the performances are all top-notch.

1. A Christmas Horror Story (2015)

Christmas Horror You May Have Missed – A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY

Do you know what 2015’s Krampus is missing? Well, for one thing, it doesn’t feature the titular beast fighting Santa Clause. A Christmas Horror Story, however, does. It’s an anthology horror story with each frightening tale taking place at the happiest time of the year. It’s great, because it’s essentially multiple horror themed Christmas movies in one!
